The Indian road transport ministry has authorized satellite-based toll collection using GNSS on-board units in vehicles. The initiative aims to cover an initial 2,000 km of highways by April 2025, focusing first on commercial vehicles. Special lanes will be designated for GNSS-equipped vehicles, allowing them to travel toll-free for up to 20 km daily on the same highway section.
